Camp Brookside, aka Figure 8 Pond Lumber Camp

October 1, 1971, was a beautiful day, with temperatures in the '70s. This picture, in contrast, was taken at the Figure 8 Lumber Camp in February, 1925. The man waist-deep in that white stuff is Henry Cook; the youth standing is John Sprague. Property of John Sprague.

Figure 8 Hunting Club, posing with their buck in 1946 are: standing--George Tacy, Thomas Abbott, Bruce Barnes, Exior Poupore, Gerald Hyland; kneelng--Jerry Martin, John Higgins, Doug Barnes and Bill Barnes.
In 1924, a group consisting of George Tacy, Floyd Dow, Frank Miles, Gerald Hyland, Clarence Humiston and John Higgins organized the "Camp Brookside" hunting camp at Chateaugay Lake.

As the membership grew, the named was changed to the Figure 8 Hunting Club [see next caption] and to this day, after much renovating, the camp is still active. Many are the pleasant weekends spent with the boys in camp.

There are three honorary members: Clarence Humiston, John Higgins and Bill Dwyer.

At Figure 8 Pond Lumber Camp in 1925, these four hearty men snowshoed in to check the deer yard. Pictured here, are left to right: seated, Henry Cook, Frank Miles and John Sprague. Standing is Kenneth Cook. (From Sprague collection.)
